Feral children are those raised in the wilderness without human contact, often with animal families. Though they might seem fictional—and though many such famous fictional characters have been created, including Mowgli, Peter Pan, and Tarzan—there have been numerous reported cases throughout history, and several in the twenty-first century. Feral children lack basic social skills, and may have trouble speaking, relating to humans, and using common items, such as kitchen utensils. Instead they may act more like the animals they once lived with. Though Kaspar Hauser had similar characteristics, he was not technically a feral child, and was able function in society (sort of).
